Susie Nicholas takes on the Velo Birmingham and Midlands 42

“After the Wild Women Challenge in Snowdonia in October, I was planning to take a break from fundraising and challenges but then an opportunity came along that was just too good to miss. About a week ago, I was offered a place in the Vélo Birmingham and Midlands, a closed road 42 mile cycle event from Birmingham to Coventry. After a day or so of wondering whether I could do it without proper training, I decided to go for it.

The ride is this Sunday 12 May 2019, just 3 days before International Hyperemesis Gravidarum (HG) Awareness Day. HG is gruelling and debilitating and the hardest thing I have ever had to endure. As I pedal my way around the 42 mile course, I will be thinking of all those women who are currently in the throes of their own HG endurance challenge. My challenge will last about 4 hours, theirs will be much longer – for some women it can last up to 40 weeks and many suffer the mental and physical consequences long after the baby is born.

Until a few days ago, I had never cycled anywhere near this distance but I have managed to squeeze in a couple of training rides and am feeling a little more confident. Even so, it will be a big challenge for me.

I am so grateful to everyone who has supported my fundraising for Pregnancy Sickness Support over the years.”

“Thank you.”

A massive well done and thank you to Susie for continuing her dedicated fundraising efforts and raising such a fantastic amount for Pregnancy Sickness Support!
